Rhys Evan – Hailstones
Recorded pre-lockdown when he was just 16 ‘Hailstones’ is a hefty achievement for someone who is still at school and has only been writing songs for a few years. The song deals with that age old theme of growing up in a small rural town (Llanidloes) and the timeless struggle to fit in with your contemporaries. The track begins with some beautifully delicate acoustic guitar and builds into an anthemic chorus that Snow Patrol at their height would have been proud of. It’s very early days and you hope that he doesn’t get snapped up by a big label and get pushed too hard too fast; a fate that has befallen too many artists in recent years such as Isaac Gracie, Rhodes and Benjamin Francis Leftwich etc. He is still growing and exploring as an artist but with “Hailstones” Rhys Evan has given us a fabulous calling card which hints at great things to come.
