Al Lewis – Battles

Following on from his Welsh Music Prize short listed album “In the Wake” this album was produced by American song writer and producer Charlie Peacock. Recorded in Nashville this gives the tracks a truly authentic sound. There is no radical departure in style rather confirmation that his song writing is maturing and growing in stature. As he moves out of his twenties you sense the cumulative life experiences that this brings will be well reflected in his writing. The opener “The Truth in Growing Old” is a case in point; a delightful reflection on the progression of time accompanied by an evocative and insistent melody. The absolute stand out track is “Battles” a song that starts out as a gentle rolling melody only to develop into a passionate and heartfelt crescendo; classic Al Lewis.
